A Way With Words: Charter School Poetry Slam
Some talented students brought their best to the stage for the 6th Annual Poetry Slam Competition at the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School. This event on Thursday evening drew students from charter schools around the area.
Students and guest poets entertained the audience with both carefully composed poems and free style riffs on life and love.
Three students garnered top prizes as they impressed a group of judges including poets, teachers, and Buffalo City Court Judge James McLeod. Jacob Herring from Westminster Charter School took First Place with his thoughtful words. Kekeli Olympio of the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School placed second while Alexis Navaroli of Oracle Charter School was awarded the third place prize.
A successful silent auction was also held.
