Keeping Students Home from School

Whenever a student is going to be absent due to illness, please call the Main Office at 854-2490 by 8:00 AM. A written absence excuse (with child’s name, date of absence and parent signature) must accompany the student when s/he returns to school.

The following list should be used as the guidelines for keeping your child home from school. Keep your child home if s/he:

  • Has (had) a fever in the past 24 hours
  • Is (was) vomiting in the past 24 hours
  • Has (had) diarrhea in the past 24 hours
  • Has strep throat until on antibiotics for 24 hours
  • Has pink-eye until on antibiotic eye drops for 24 hours
  • Has head lice until treated and nit-free
  • Has an undiagnosed rash
  • Has a bad cold, with a very runny nose, extremely congested, or a disruptive cough, especially if it has kept the child awake at night

Please note that your child will need a medical excuse from the physician if s/he is out of school for 3 or more days. A physician’s note should indicate if your child has any physical restrictions and/or concession (such as physical education exemptions or use of the school elevator for non-crutch related injuries or illnesses) and it should state how long the restrictions should stay in effect.
