| UB Head Football Coach Turner Gill Visits BASCS |

On
May 13th, 2009 UB head football coach Turner Gill visited BASCS and spoke with
our middle school students. Coach Gill took time out of his busy schedule to
talk to our students about life and how to be successful. He focused on three
key words: Knowledge, Hard work, and Attitude, and how those words add up to

Friday May 1, BASCS celebrated the students' third quarter achievements by
honoring them at the Awards Ceremony. Teachers nominated students for
Achiever and Most Improved Achiever of the Quarter, Citizen and Most Improved

| B.A.S.C.S Hosted First Annual Spelling Bee |

On
Wednesday, April 29th B.A.S.C.S hosted our First Annual Spelling Bee! It was a
great success in addition to being an historic event. 17 students competitively
spelled words in hopes of clinching the 1st place ribbon. Eight rounds of
"edge-of-your-seat" excitement produced our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners..read more....

Buffalo Academy of Science Olympiad Team with our
Director Mr. Kaya visited Assembly member Hon. Crystal D. Peoples of the 141st
Assembly District at her Buffalo Office. Hon. Peoples was very happy to hear
the success of the Science Olympiad team and has congratulated the students

| BASCS Organized the 2nd Black History
Program |

The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School
celebrated Black History Month by producing their second annual Black History
Program. The event took place on February 26, 2009 with the theme, “What is
Your Legacy?”
The program featured our very
own students profiling the lives of African American historical leaders. Those
included were Mary McLeod Bethune, Bessie Coleman, Michelle Obama, Emmitt Till,
and President Barack Obama. Students also showcased their own talents with
poetry recitations and singing performances. read more....

| Science Olympiad Team Wins 3 Medals |

|
The Science Olympiad team worked extremely hard in
preparation for the Regional Science Olympiad competition which took place on
Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Southside Elementary School. Members of the 2009
Olympiad team are Deion Kuykendall, Zarina Musayeva, Nuliyar Tursunova, Moiela
Mohammad, Airaj Mohammad, Akmed Aliyev, Char Hardy, Elizabeth Szczupak, Elnur

| 4th Annual Poetry Slam Competition |

Buffalo Academy of Science’s 4th annual
Poetry Slam was a huge success. Students, parents, and other guests had a
wonderful evening. The event featured performances from student and staff
poets, professional poets, and professional musicians. Our own teachers also
cooked a spaghetti dinner as part of the celebration. read more....

| BASCS Students Visited Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown |
|
|
|
BASCS students, together with members of our school
staff, visited Mayor Byran Brown’s office at the City Hall building in downtown
Buffalo. Our mayor congratulated the Science Olympiad team for their success in
this year’s Science Olympiad competition. The Olympiad was organized by the
Buffalo School District. Students from the Olympiad team expressed their
gratitude for being recognized by Mayor Brown for their hard work and effort.
They stated that they received great advice and guidance from the mayor during
their visit. Mayor Brown also spoke with members of our school newspaper, The
