BASCS Science Olympiad Team did a fantastic job at Niagara Erie Regional
Science Olympiad Competition and won 2 GOLD MEDALS and 1 SILVER MEDAL.

Elchin Aliyev and Airaj M. Naim won GOLD MEDAL in Elevated Bridge
* Akmed Aliyev and Ibraim Shakirov won GOLD MEDAL in Wright Stuff
* Deion Kuykendall and Raymond Smith won SILVER MEDAL in Trajectory.

| BASCS Annual Poetry Slam Night |

The Fifth Annual Charter School Poetry Slam was held on Thursday February 25, 2010 from 6-8pm.
The event was a wonderful success and featured student poet competitions, professional acts from
Chae Hawk, Toni Benjamin (aka Thunder) and Robert Pomerhn.

| BASCS Celebrates Black History Month with a Program |

Students at BASCS celebrated Black History Month by attending a program at
Shanghai Red’s Restaurant. The students also took part in their own Black
History Program at BASCS. Students recognized African Americans who have done
great things for this country. Mr. Riccio presented six students with
certificates and gift cards as prizes for winning the Black History essay

| BASCS Students Held a Bake Sale for Haiti Earthquake

In response to the recent earthquake in Haiti, BASCS staff and
students held two dress-down days and a bake sale to raise money
for the people of Haiti. A total of $1,000.20 was given to Helping
Hands Relief, an organization that provides disaster relief to countries

| UB Head Football Coach Turner Gill Visits BASCS |

May 13th, 2009 UB head football coach Turner Gill visited BASCS and spoke with
our middle school students. Coach Gill took time out of his busy schedule to
talk to our students about life and how to be successful. He focused on three
key words: Knowledge, Hard work, and Attitude, and how those words add up to

| B.A.S.C.S Hosted First Annual Spelling Bee |

On
Wednesday, April 29th B.A.S.C.S hosted our First Annual Spelling Bee! It was a
great success in addition to being an historic event. 17 students competitively
spelled words in hopes of clinching the 1st place ribbon. Eight rounds of
