The
annual BASCS science fair was held on Wednesday May 12, 2010 from 4-6 pm. The
event was a success and featured over 50 projects. First place went to Kiera
Wilson and Char Hardy. Second place went to Hannan Elbaneh and Third place went
to Moiela Niam Mohammad and Nuliyar Tursunova. read

| 2nd Annual Spelling Bee Competition |

On
May 6th 2010, the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School held its second
annual Spelling Bee. The event was a huge success with 24 participants from all
different grade levels competing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

| BASCS Students Participate in A Math Contest at NJIT |

BASCS
Middle School Math Team has participated in a math contest in New Jersey
Institute of Technology, NJ. Three seventh graders: Taylor Comb, Gabriella
Demoss, and Martha Torres have represented our school proudly and did a great
job as first time participants.

BASCS
Science Olympiad Team did a fantastic job at Niagara Erie Regional Science
Olympiad Competition and won 2 GOLD MEDALS and 1 SILVER MEDAL.

Elchin Aliyev and Airaj M. Naim won GOLD MEDAL in Elevated Bridge
* Akmed Aliyev and Ibraim Shakirov won GOLD MEDAL in Wright Stuff
* Deion Kuykendall and Raymond Smith won SILVER MEDAL in Trajectory.

schools participated in the competition. BASCS competed in 3 out of 21

| BASCS Annual Poetry Slam Night |

The
Fifth Annual Charter School Poetry Slam was held on Thursday February 25, 2010
from 6-8pm. The event was a wonderful success and featured student poet
competitions, professional acts from Chae Hawk, Toni Benjamin (aka Thunder) and
Robert Pomerhn.

| BASCS Celebrates Black History Month with a Program |

|
Students
at BASCS celebrated Black History Month by attending a program at Shanghai
Red’s Restaurant. The students also took part in their own Black History
Program at BASCS. Students recognized African Americans who have done great
things for this country. Mr. Riccio presented six students with certificates
and gift cards as prizes for winning the Black History essay contest.

| BASCS Students Held a Bake Sale for Haiti Earthquake
Victims |

In
response to the recent earthquake in Haiti, BASCS staff and
students held two dress-down days and a bake sale to raise money
for the people of Haiti. A total of $1,000.20 was given to Helping
Hands Relief, an organization that provides disaster relief to countries
suffering from devastation.

| UB Head Football Coach Turner Gill Visits BASCS |

On
May 13th, 2009 UB head football coach Turner Gill visited BASCS and spoke with
our middle school students. Coach Gill took time out of his busy schedule to
talk to our students about life and how to be successful. He focused on three
key words: Knowledge, Hard work, and Attitude, and how those words add up to
success in life and on the football field..

Buffalo Academy of Science Olympiad Team with our
Director Mr. Kaya visited Assembly member Hon. Crystal D. Peoples of the 141st
Assembly District at her Buffalo Office. Hon. Peoples was very happy to hear
the success of the Science Olympiad team and has congratulated the students
individually.
