Tuesday, May 7th was the annual international dinner, Taste of BASCS. The entire school community came together to share the foods and cultures of their respective countries of heritage.
Friday, May 3rd was a big day for 29 of our students! Thanks to the Athletics Department, BASCS students had the opportunity to visit Ralph Wilson Stadium – home of the Buffalo Bills! The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to tour the stadium.
May 8th and 9th marked this year’s 3rd quarter Middle and High School Honors Breakfasts, respectively. We had some parents in attendance to see the students receive their Merit Roll, Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, Most Improved and Citizenship Certificates.
On Friday, March 22nd, BASCS Student Council hosted a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The tournament was exciting, with 4 high and 4 middle school teams competing for bragging rights!
March 21st was BASCS’ Annual Family Literacy Night. This year’s theme focused on Strategies of Literacy. Parents were introduced to 6 skills that their children are taught in the classroom and shown how they can be used at home.
Members of the Robotics Team Wolverines attended a qualifying event for the Finger Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics Competition in Rochester, NY on February 16th.
On Friday, March 1st, Mr. Joe Diamond visited the BASCS MS students. Mr. Diamond is a Holocaust survivor and came to share his experiences with the students. At the outset, Mr. Diamond joked with the students at “how big” they are “for their age” and remarked that BASCS is his favorite school to visit because the students ask the most thoughtful questions.
Saturday, March 2nd was a big day for the BASCS Science Olympiad Team. Students competed against 15 other WNY schools in the qualifying event, the Buffalo Regional Science Olympiad.
On February 28th, 25 middle and high school students took the stage at the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library Downtown Central Branch Auditorium for BASCS' 8th Annual Poetry Slam. The students represented eight of Buffalo's Charter and Public Schools.
This year’s Black (African American) History Month program challenged all the students to think about their personal legacy. All throughout the month of February, were asked to consider this question: “What do you want your legacy to be?” On February 20th, some of the students showed us publically their answers to the question…
We had a great Science Fair on Saturday, February 9th! Thanks to Mr. Aydos, the Science Department and all of the faculty and staff that helped make the afternoon a success.
Thursday, February 7th was the Middle School Valentine’s Day Parent Night. The imminent winter storm and lack of parking (due to the car show at the Convention Center) could not stop BASCS’ dedicated staff, students and families from attending a wonderful evening full of cookie-decorating, valentine-making and fun-having!
On January 20th, 38 middle school students took a chaperoned journey to our nation’s capital. The students the long bus ride to Washington D.C. to attend the second Presidential Inauguration of President Obama.
January 10th-12th was a busy time for our Science Olympiads! The 16 students spent the days in science camp at Montclair State University in New Jersey. For three intense days, students participated in morning study sessions and afternoon building events.
On Thursday, December 20, 2012, members of the Buffalo Academy of Science National Honor Society delivered toys and canned goods to the Buffalo City Mission. The NHS students wrapped presents and boxed the non-perishables to bring to the Mission just in time for the holidays.
On Friday, January 18, 2013, BASCS’ very own ESL teacher, Ms. Rico, was honored as the WKBW Ch.7 TEACHER OF THE WEEK! Ms. Rico was presented her award by Ch. 7 News' Autumn Lewandowski. See Ms. Rico accept her certificate on live TV! Congratulations, Ms. Rico! Way to rock!
On Monday, November 19th, 17 students visited Trocaire College* with school counselor, Ms. Magney. Students were given a tour of the campus, where they got to see the small community of this local college.
Students at BASCS showed their Wolverine Pride on November 19th, 20th and 21st. To celebrate school pride, students and teachers dressed according to themes for Spirit Week.
Our November Family Night for the 9th & 10th grades was a huge success! We had a great turnout on Thursday, November 15th for our event that highlighted teachers cooking for our parents and students,
The senior class had a blast at the Rochester Museum and Science Center on November 13th. At this interactive museum, they participated in activities that included a simulated ride on the Niagara River, an earthquake simulator, rock climbing, and digging for reptile fossils.
BASCS recognized the Middle School honors students on Thursday, November 15th with a special Honors Breakfasts. This celebration was to congratulate the 7th and 8th grade students for all of their hard work in the first quarter.

October 31st was not just Halloween at the Buffalo Academy of Science… Rather than dressing up as ghosts and ghouls, the National Honor Society students hosted “Pink Day”.
Thursday, November 1st was the Grand Opening Ceremony of the BASCS DREAM FACTORY Technology and Robotics Laboratory. NYS Assemblyman Sean Ryan (District 144) was present and spoke to the students about the importance of continuing their science education.
On Friday, October 26th, the middle school students and teachers held their annual school Lock-In event. Over 60 students and 13 staff members attended the overnight event from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
On Monday, October 22nd, BASCS Sophomores and Juniors took a tour of Daemen College. Accompanied by Mrs. Magney, the students were able to visit classes and talk with students.
On Wednesday, October 10th, 25 Middle School girls went to Camp Seven Hills in Holland, NY. The girls went as part of the BASCS Girl Scout Troop, under the guidance of Mrs. Bundy, Troop Leader and Mrs. Gillison, Assistant Troop Leader.
On Wednesday, September 19th, Mrs. Gillison accompanied a dozen of our high school students to the college fair hosted by Canisius College Academic Talent Search.
On Thursday, September 27th, 78 middle school students took the first international field trip of the 2012-2013 academic year. Along with 8 teachers as chaperones, the students travelled to Ontario, Canada to visit the Toronto Zoo.
On 9/24/2012, during periods 3 and 4, the 9th grade students met for Ice Cream and Ice Breakers. While we learned that the 9th graders are very spirited and very vocal group, I think it's fair to say that everyone have a great time!
